Cougar Trail Troubleshooting

TROUBLESHOOTING REGISTRATION

If registration is not successful, you will receive a specific error message. Error messages include the following:
  • “Prerequisite XX required”
  • “Time Conflict with XX”
  • “Student Not Admitted for Term” — contact the Graduate Office (953-5614).
  • “Student Not Eligible to Register on the Web” — check your scheduled entry time.
  • “Student Not Eligible to Register” — you have a hold. Check the HOLD link to find out which office/department to contact.
  • “Permission by department/instructor needed” — contact the department of the course in which you are trying to enroll.
  • “Undergrads Need Permission” — an undergraduate student has selected a graduate course. If you need this course you must contact the department in which you are trying to enroll or the Graduate School Office.
  • “Closed by Restriction” — the course requires a prerequisite. See the graduate catalog link for prerequisites.

REGISTRATION HOLDS

Cougar Trail on the Web will not allow you to register, view grades, or view your unofficial transcript if you have a hold on your account. Holds can be placed for reasons such as unpaid library fines or past due balances. Check the HOLDs link to find out which office you should contact. Only the office that placed the hold can remove it. Some holds are only lifted overnight, so please be cognizant and check before your registration entry time or before the time that you need to obtain a transcript or your grades.

TIME CONFLICT

Cougar Trail on the Web prohibits scheduling courses with a time conflict. The system will show you the time conflict, and you must select another course or another time.

RESTRICTED COURSES

Some courses require a particular class status (eg. graduate) or a specific major. If you attempt to register for such a course without the appropriate status, Cougar Trail on the Web will deny the request. You may contact the academic department for assistance.

PREREQUISITES

Any time you attempt to register for a course, the system will check your request against your academic record. If you have not satisfied the prerequisite, you will be unable to register for the course. Please contact the academic department that offers the course for further assistance.

CO-REQUISITES

To register for a course that requires a co-requisite (such as lecture and lab combinations), you must type in the call number for both courses using the Drop/Add link and click submit only after both call numbers have been entered.

INDIVIDUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES

You may not use Cougar Trail on the Web to register for the following courses: Independent Study, Tutorial, variable credit courses, and Master’s thesis. Please contact the academic department for the required paperwork and registration procedures.

CANCELLED CLASSES

Upon notification of a canceled course, you may register for an alternate course using Cougar Trail on the Web. Contact the academic department or the Graduate Office if you need assistance.

For questions regarding Cougar Trail on the Web or registration please e-mail CTHelp-Stu@cofc.edu or call the Graduate School Office at 953-5614 or the Registrar’s Office at 953-4945 or 953-4958.
