C of C Greeks Raise $8,000 for Children's Hospital

April 30, 2002

C of C fraternity and sorority members are pictured in Alumni Hall to present an $8,000 check to MUSC’s Children’s Hospital. Those attending included, front left, C of C President Lee Higdon, to his left, Jason Raitano, Sigma Chi’s “Derby Daddy,” and next to him, Meghan Booe from the Children’s Hospital.

On April 19 the Sigma Chi fraternity at the College of Charleston presented $8,000 to the Medical University of South Carolina’s Children’s Hospital. The funds were raised during Sigma Chi’s annual Derby Days, a week-long series of games, contests, and fundraising activities in which C of C sororities compete.

Since 1998, Sigma Chi has raised $36,500 for the Children’s Hospital. Meghan Booe, the hospital’s special events coordinator, says MUSC rewards organizations that donate more than $30,000 by naming a room in the hospital after the organization. She stressed that all the money raised by Sigma Chi and the sororities stays locally, helping make the Children’s Hospital even better.

At the check presentation, College of Charleston President Lee Higdon commended the students for their goodwill and service to the community.
