2001-2002 Faculty Awards Announced

C OF C ANNOUNCES 2001-2002 FACULTY AWARDS

Faculty Awards of Distinction for the 2001-2002 academic year were announced on April 22 at the College of Charleston’s Spring faculty meeting. They are as follows:

Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Award-- George Dickinson, Professor of Sociology

Distinguished Advising Award-- Willette Burnham, Director of Intercultural Programs; Larry Carlson, Professor of English; and James Deavor, Interim Dean of the School of Sciences and Mathematics

Distinguished Service Award-- Sam Hines, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Distinguished Research Award-- Renling Jin, Associate Professor of Mathematics

Distinguished Teaching Award-- Shirley Moore, Assistant Professor of Communication

It was also announced that Peter McCandless, Professor of History, has been designated Distinguished Professor.

And the following faculty members were recognized as retiring this year as Faculty Emeriti:

Virginia R. Benmaman-- Professor Emeritus (Hispanic Studies)

Jorge A. Marban-- Distinguished Professor Emeritus (Hispanic Studies)

Clark G. Reynolds-- Distinguished Professor Emeritus (History)

Peter J. Rowe-- Associate Professor Emeritus (Psychology)

Rose Hamm Rowland-- Associate Professor Emeritus (Mathematics)

James W. Smiley-- Professor Emeritus (Biology)
